Top 10 Rayquaza Pokémon Cards to Collect

Collector guide · Reviewed 21 October 2026 · By TCGInvest editorial

Rayquaza’s long silhouette gives artists room for striking layouts, from compact early ex cards to large modern scenes. A collection can follow shiny colouring, Mega Evolution typography or environmental illustration. These ten picks include all three, with the exact printing details needed to keep similarly named Rayquaza cards apart when shopping.

How we chose these cards

This is an editorial shortlist ranked for artwork, variety across card designs and usefulness in a themed collection. It is not a price, rarity, popularity-vote or expected-return ranking. We focus on established English printings from several eras, rather than promising a complete catalogue or every recent release. Edition and foil variants are not separate places unless explicitly identified. The pictured finish is a reference: confirm the finish offered by the seller.

Start with a comparison: Open Card Finder to look for the printing and inspect any available dated references. Coverage varies, so a missing card or price is not a zero valuation. See how our sources work.

The shortlist at a glance

1. Rayquaza VMAX — Evolving Skies

Exact printing: Rayquaza VMAX · Evolving Skies · 218/203 · English.

Evolving Skies' illustrated Rayquaza VMAX uses scale and a busy surrounding scene to create a display centrepiece. It is the landscape-led pick in this list. Number 218 matters: a listing for the regular or rainbow VMAX is not the same artwork.

2. Rayquaza ★ — Deoxys

Exact printing: Rayquaza ★ · Deoxys · 107/107 · English.

The star-marked Rayquaza from Deoxys gives collectors a distinctive shiny-era target. It is a natural historical counterpart to modern large-scale illustrations. Compare the exact printing and ask for detailed photographs; star-themed keywords alone also return unrelated products and reproductions.

3. Rayquaza V — Evolving Skies

Exact printing: Rayquaza V · Evolving Skies · 194/203 · English.

Rayquaza V offers a character-led illustration that complements the VMAX without repeating its composition. It is a useful pick for collectors who like a visible Trainer connection. Match number 194, since Evolving Skies contains multiple Rayquaza V treatments.

4. Shining Rayquaza — Shining Legends

Exact printing: Shining Rayquaza · Shining Legends · 56/73 · English.

Shining Rayquaza gives the shiny colour scheme a compact Shining Legends presentation. It works well in a page devoted to the set's Shining Pokémon. Confirm the set and finish in the actual photographs rather than relying on a seller's generic shiny Rayquaza description.

5. Rayquaza — Call of Legends

Exact printing: Rayquaza · Call of Legends · SL10 · English.

Call of Legends offers another shiny-era Rayquaza with the distinctive SL numbering system. It provides a different design language from both the star card and Shining Legends. The regular Rayquaza in the same expansion is separately numbered and should not be substituted.

6. M Rayquaza-EX — Ancient Origins

Exact printing: M Rayquaza-EX · Ancient Origins · 98/98 · English.

The Ancient Origins Mega Rayquaza-EX brings dramatic typography and a dark colour scheme into the collection. It suits collectors who enjoy the visual excess of Mega Evolution cards. Number 98 identifies this treatment; other Mega Rayquaza cards belong to different sets and layouts.

7. Rayquaza ex — Dragon

Exact printing: Rayquaza ex · Dragon · 97/97 · English.

Dragon's Rayquaza ex is an early lowercase ex-era representative. It makes sense as a historical anchor for collectors following the species beyond recent full arts. Inspect the silver border and confirm number 97 rather than confusing it with the later Deoxys Rayquaza ex.

8. Rayquaza-EX — Dragons Exalted

Exact printing: Rayquaza-EX · Dragons Exalted · 123/124 · English.

Dragons Exalted's full-art Rayquaza-EX adds a bold portrait-style card to a scene-heavy selection. It represents the uppercase EX era without using a Mega Evolution design. Search using number 123, since the same set contains other Rayquaza entries with different artwork.

9. Rayquaza-GX — Celestial Storm

Exact printing: Rayquaza-GX · Celestial Storm · 177/168 · English.

The rainbow Rayquaza-GX from Celestial Storm is the finish-led choice here. It gives a different collecting experience from the shiny and landscape cards. Match number 177 carefully, and check for the separately catalogued alternate printing when a seller uses a stock photograph.

10. Rayquaza — Vivid Voltage

Exact printing: Rayquaza · Vivid Voltage · 138/185 · English.

Vivid Voltage's Amazing Rare Rayquaza brings colour beyond the usual artwork window. It works as a compact modern entry with a distinctive rarity design. Confirm the Amazing Rare treatment and number 138; not every Rayquaza card with a colourful background belongs to this printing.

Build a Rayquaza collection with a clear goal

Choose a visual thread before building the page. A shiny-Rayquaza project is different from a timeline of EX, GX and VMAX mechanics. Shared artwork across languages should also be tracked separately when you compare actual purchases.

Use the tools before you choose a listing

Identify and compare: Card Finder helps you look for exact cards and available observations. Check the date and source market before treating a reference as a UK transaction price.

Review a graded card: PSA Lookup is a useful next step when checking a PSA-labelled listing. Match the label, certificate and card photographs; a certificate number by itself does not establish the condition or authenticity of the item offered.

Consider grading carefully: Read our UK grading costs and turnaround guide before submitting a card. Check the current service terms, include postage and selling costs, and allow for uncertain grades. A raw-to-PSA-10 price difference is not expected profit.

Explore the set: Browse chase cards when you want context for other cards in an expansion. If you are comparing sealed products as well, use the Booster Box Tracker and ETB Tracker. A set reference is not the price of this single card. For a sealed purchase you already track, use the ROI Calculator to compare its recorded performance with your purchase cost; it is a sealed-product tool, not a card-grading forecast.

Keep track: Where a card is covered, open its detail page to use the available collection or watchlist controls. See price-alert options for supported products; coverage, account requirements and plan limits apply. An article link does not mean every card here has an alert.

How to compare eBay listings

Start with the exact name, set, number and English language shown above. Our links use the card name, set and collector number, with English selected through eBay’s language filter. Promotional cards use their specific promo number rather than a long set label. Search results can still include the wrong printing, bundles or altered cards. They are starting points, not a seller recommendation or an authentication service.

For vintage cards, compare the edition stamp and any relevant printing differences. For all cards, ask for clear front, back, corner and surface photographs. A scan of the ideal card does not establish the condition of the copy for sale. Holo, reverse-holo, stamped and non-holo variants may share a number.

Compare the total delivered cost, including postage and any import charges. Raw and graded copies belong in separate comparisons, as do different grading companies and grades. Asking prices are not completed-sale evidence. Read the seller’s description, feedback and return terms before committing.

Questions about collecting Rayquaza cards

Which Rayquaza card should I buy first?

Choose one artwork you would enjoy owning, then set a delivered-cost limit. The first-ranked card is an editorial display pick, not a requirement or a promise that it is affordable. A simpler set card can make a better first purchase if you prefer its artwork or condition.

Are these the most expensive Rayquaza cards?

No. The order reflects this guide’s collecting criteria. It does not use a live price table, auction record, print-run estimate or measured popularity score. A card outside this list can be a better fit for your theme.

Should I buy a single card or open packs?

A correctly identified single lets you choose the specific card and condition offered. Opening packs has an uncertain outcome and does not guarantee any card on this list. Compare the experience you want with the money you are prepared to spend.

Do the eBay links show the exact card?

They search for the card name, set and number, with English selected through eBay’s language filter, but eBay can return imperfect matches. Verify the listing photographs, language, finish and condition yourself. We do not claim current stock, a particular seller or a fixed price.

Sources and artwork

Card names, set identities, numbers and reference artwork were checked against the Pokémon TCG data catalogue, an independent community-maintained dataset. Images are served from copies checked against TCGdex’s English card catalogue or Pokémon’s official card artwork. You can also consult the official Pokémon card database and its search guide. Older releases and variants may need separate references. Card artwork is © Pokémon / Nintendo / Creatures / GAME FREAK; displayed to identify and discuss the cards, without implying endorsement. Rankings and collecting commentary are TCGInvest editorial choices.
