Top 10 Lugia Pokémon Cards to Collect

Explore 10 Lugia Pokémon cards with artwork, exact sets and card numbers, collecting tips and UK eBay searches. Build a collection around designs you love.

Collector guide · Reviewed 21 October 2026 · By TCGInvest editorial

A Lugia collection can follow several very different paths: the early Johto holos, shiny-era cards, unusual two-card LEGEND artwork, or modern storm-filled illustrations. This selection gives each of those directions space. Start with the design you would enjoy seeing in a binder, then decide how much edition and condition matter to your collection.

How we chose these cards

This is an editorial shortlist ranked for artwork, variety across card designs and usefulness in a themed collection. It is not a price, rarity, popularity-vote or expected-return ranking. We focus on established English printings from several eras, rather than promising a complete catalogue or every recent release. Edition and foil variants are not separate places unless explicitly identified. The pictured finish is a reference: confirm the finish offered by the seller.

Start with a comparison: Open Card Finder to look for the printing and inspect any available dated references. Coverage varies, so a missing card or price is not a zero valuation. See how our sources work.

1. Lugia — Neo Genesis

Lugia, Neo Genesis, 9/111, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia · Neo Genesis · 9/111 · English.

The original English Lugia holo is the natural anchor for a Johto collection. Its restrained silver-and-blue design feels very different from modern full-art cards. Compare the edition stamp before comparing asking prices, and inspect the pale holo area for scratches.

2. Lugia V — Silver Tempest

Lugia V, Silver Tempest, 186/195, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia V · Silver Tempest · 186/195 · English.

This Silver Tempest illustration turns Lugia into a looming presence above a small boat. The sense of scale gives it a strong display role without relying on a rainbow finish. Number 186 matters: other Lugia V cards in the same set use different artwork.

3. Lugia — Aquapolis

Lugia, Aquapolis, 149/147, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia · Aquapolis · 149/147 · English.

Aquapolis puts Lugia inside the distinctive e-Reader frame, making it an appealing bridge between vintage collecting and unusual card design. It is a separate printing from Neo Genesis. Match the collector number and inspect both the foil and the broad yellow border.

4. Lugia ex — Unseen Forces

Lugia ex, Unseen Forces, 105/115, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia ex · Unseen Forces · 105/115 · English.

The lowercase ex treatment gives Lugia a different visual identity from later uppercase EX and GX cards. This Unseen Forces card suits a collection organised around changing game mechanics. Ask for clear edge photographs; a silver border can reveal wear that a front-on image hides.

5. Lugia — Call of Legends

Lugia, Call of Legends, SL7, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia · Call of Legends · SL7 · English.

Call of Legends offers a striking alternative colour treatment and an SL collector number. It makes sense beside other shiny Pokémon rather than as a replacement for the original holo. Make sure the listing specifies SL7, not the regular Lugia from this expansion.

6. Lugia-EX — Plasma Storm

Lugia-EX, Plasma Storm, 134/135, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia-EX · Plasma Storm · 134/135 · English.

The full-art Plasma Storm Lugia-EX brings the blue Team Plasma styling into the collection. It is a useful choice if you prefer graphic composition to scenic illustration. Do not confuse the full art with number 108, which shares the same Pokémon and mechanic.

7. Lugia-GX — Lost Thunder

Lugia-GX, Lost Thunder, 227/214, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia-GX · Lost Thunder · 227/214 · English.

The rainbow Lugia-GX from Lost Thunder emphasises surface finish and silhouette rather than a natural setting. It provides variety beside an illustration-led favourite. Check photographs taken from several angles so the rainbow coating does not conceal scuffing or a dent.

8. Lugia LEGEND — HeartGold & SoulSilver

Lugia LEGEND, HeartGold & SoulSilver, 113/123, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia LEGEND · HeartGold & SoulSilver · 113/123 · English.

The top half of Lugia LEGEND is an unusual way to collect the Pokémon: its composition is designed to continue onto a second card. Choose it for a paired display project. A listing for this number alone does not include the matching bottom half.

9. Lugia LEGEND — HeartGold & SoulSilver

Lugia LEGEND, HeartGold & SoulSilver, 114/123, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia LEGEND · HeartGold & SoulSilver · 114/123 · English.

The bottom half completes the HeartGold & SoulSilver Lugia LEGEND illustration. We count the two physical cards separately here because buyers need both exact numbers. Compare their condition together; a mismatched pair can look less cohesive in a binder than either seller photo suggests.

10. Lugia-EX — Ancient Origins

Lugia-EX, Ancient Origins, 94/98, English card artwork

Exact printing: Lugia-EX · Ancient Origins · 94/98 · English.

Ancient Origins gives Lugia another full-art era to represent without repeating the Silver Tempest scene. Its uppercase EX label is part of the card's identity. Search for number 94 specifically, and compare the textured surface with photographs of an authentic example.

Build a Lugia collection with a clear goal

For a compact three-part collection, compare Neo Genesis, a shiny-era printing and Silver Tempest. Treat the two Lugia LEGEND halves as a separate display project: one half is a complete physical card but only part of the intended picture.

Use the tools before you choose a listing

Identify and compare: Card Finder helps you look for exact cards and available observations. Check the date and source market before treating a reference as a UK transaction price.

Review a graded card: PSA Lookup is a useful next step when checking a PSA-labelled listing. Match the label, certificate and card photographs; a certificate number by itself does not establish the condition or authenticity of the item offered.

Consider grading carefully: Read our UK grading costs and turnaround guide before submitting a card. Check the current service terms, include postage and selling costs, and allow for uncertain grades. A raw-to-PSA-10 price difference is not expected profit.

Explore the set: Browse chase cards when you want context for other cards in an expansion. If you are comparing sealed products as well, use the Booster Box Tracker and ETB Tracker. A set reference is not the price of this single card. For a sealed purchase you already track, use the ROI Calculator to compare its recorded performance with your purchase cost; it is a sealed-product tool, not a card-grading forecast.

Keep track: Where a card is covered, open its detail page to use the available collection or watchlist controls. See price-alert options for supported products; coverage, account requirements and plan limits apply. An article link does not mean every card here has an alert.

How to compare eBay listings

Start with the exact name, set, number and English language shown above. Our links use the card name, set and collector number, with English selected through eBay’s language filter. Promotional cards use their specific promo number rather than a long set label. Search results can still include the wrong printing, bundles or altered cards. They are starting points, not a seller recommendation or an authentication service.

For vintage cards, compare the edition stamp and any relevant printing differences. For all cards, ask for clear front, back, corner and surface photographs. A scan of the ideal card does not establish the condition of the copy for sale. Holo, reverse-holo, stamped and non-holo variants may share a number.

Compare the total delivered cost, including postage and any import charges. Raw and graded copies belong in separate comparisons, as do different grading companies and grades. Asking prices are not completed-sale evidence. Read the seller’s description, feedback and return terms before committing.

Questions about collecting Lugia cards

Which Lugia card should I buy first?

Choose one artwork you would enjoy owning, then set a delivered-cost limit. The first-ranked card is an editorial display pick, not a requirement or a promise that it is affordable. A simpler set card can make a better first purchase if you prefer its artwork or condition.

Are these the most expensive Lugia cards?

No. The order reflects this guide’s collecting criteria. It does not use a live price table, auction record, print-run estimate or measured popularity score. A card outside this list can be a better fit for your theme.

Should I buy a single card or open packs?

A correctly identified single lets you choose the specific card and condition offered. Opening packs has an uncertain outcome and does not guarantee any card on this list. Compare the experience you want with the money you are prepared to spend.

Do the eBay links show the exact card?

They search for the card name, set and number, with English selected through eBay’s language filter, but eBay can return imperfect matches. Verify the listing photographs, language, finish and condition yourself. We do not claim current stock, a particular seller or a fixed price.

Sources and artwork

Card names, set identities, numbers and reference artwork were checked against the Pokémon TCG data catalogue, an independent community-maintained dataset. Images are served from copies checked against TCGdex’s English card catalogue or Pokémon’s official card artwork. You can also consult the official Pokémon card database and its search guide. Older releases and variants may need separate references. Card artwork is © Pokémon / Nintendo / Creatures / GAME FREAK; displayed to identify and discuss the cards, without implying endorsement. Rankings and collecting commentary are TCGInvest editorial choices.
