Make your collecting shortlist
Collector guide · Reviewed 21 October 2026 · By TCGInvest editorial
Dragonite cards can look gentle, sleepy or unexpectedly severe. That personality range makes the species a rewarding alternative to collecting only attack-focused artwork. This list balances the familiar Fossil holo, Light and Dark interpretations, older design eras and the relaxed Evolving Skies illustration, giving several practical starting points for a binder.

How we chose these cards
This is an editorial shortlist ranked for artwork, variety across card designs and usefulness in a themed collection. It is not a price, rarity, popularity-vote or expected-return ranking. We focus on established English printings from several eras, rather than promising a complete catalogue or every recent release. Edition and foil variants are not separate places unless explicitly identified. The pictured finish is a reference: confirm the finish offered by the seller.
Start with a comparison: Open Card Finder to look for the printing and inspect any available dated references. Coverage varies, so a missing card or price is not a zero valuation. See how our sources work.

1. Dragonite V — Evolving Skies

Exact printing: Dragonite V · Evolving Skies · 192/203 · English.
The sleeping Dragonite illustration from Evolving Skies offers a calmer centrepiece than a typical attack pose. It suits a collection focused on personality and everyday scenes. Match number 192, because the set's other Dragonite V treatment is a separate card.

2. Dragonite — Fossil

Exact printing: Dragonite · Fossil · 4/62 · English.
Fossil's Dragonite holo is the vintage anchor for this list. Its bright, approachable design contrasts with later Dark Dragonite cards. Check the edition stamp and number 4; the non-holo Dragonite from Fossil is separately numbered and should have its own comparison.

3. Light Dragonite — Neo Destiny

Exact printing: Light Dragonite · Neo Destiny · 14/105 · English.
Light Dragonite offers a gentler counterpart to Team Rocket's Dark Dragonite. It is an especially good fit for a binder page pairing Light and Dark Pokémon. Confirm the Neo Destiny set and edition, and inspect pale artwork areas and holo surfaces for wear.

4. Dark Dragonite — Team Rocket

Exact printing: Dark Dragonite · Team Rocket · 5/82 · English.
Dark Dragonite adds Team Rocket's identity and a moodier direction to the species collection. It pairs well with the Fossil holo without repeating its character. Number 5 identifies the holo; number 22 is the set's non-holo Dark Dragonite.

5. Dragonite ex — Dragon

Exact printing: Dragonite ex · Dragon · 90/97 · English.
Dragonite ex from Dragon introduces the silver-bordered lowercase ex design. It provides an era marker between the early holos and modern Dragonite V cards. Ask for close-up border photographs and match the expansion name, since later Dragonite ex cards have separate identities.

6. Dragonite δ — Delta Species

Exact printing: Dragonite δ · Delta Species · 3/113 · English.
Delta Species Dragonite adds an alternate-era interpretation to the collection. It is a useful pick for collectors interested in the species' changing types and design systems. Confirm the delta marking, set and finish before comparing it with a conventional Dragonite holo.

7. Dragonite — Expedition Base Set

Exact printing: Dragonite · Expedition Base Set · 9/165 · English.
Expedition's holo Dragonite gives the species an e-Reader-frame entry. It is appealing if the collection includes older card-design experiments as well as artwork favourites. Match number 9; Expedition also includes a separately numbered Dragonite and finish alone is not enough to identify it.

8. Dragonite-EX — Furious Fists

Exact printing: Dragonite-EX · Furious Fists · 108/111 · English.
Furious Fists' full-art Dragonite-EX offers a bold portrait-style break from the sleeping modern scene. It is useful for a collection arranged around EX-era design. Number 108 identifies the full art, rather than the regular Dragonite-EX in the same expansion.

9. Dragonite-GX — Unified Minds

Exact printing: Dragonite-GX · Unified Minds · 248/236 · English.
The rainbow Dragonite-GX from Unified Minds gives the page a finish-focused modern entry. It is best chosen for the look of the card rather than an assumption about its ranking by price. Use number 248 to distinguish it from the set's other Dragonite-GX cards.

10. Dragonite-EX — Evolutions

Exact printing: Dragonite-EX · Evolutions · 106/108 · English.
Evolutions' full-art Dragonite-EX adds a nostalgia-era modern design without copying the Fossil holo. It works as a link between a Kanto-themed collection and the EX mechanic. Match number 106, and compare actual surface photographs rather than a stock scan's ideal condition.

Build a Dragonite collection with a clear goal
The Light Dragonite and Dark Dragonite pairing makes a focused two-card project. If you prefer a visual timeline, add Fossil and the sleeping Dragonite V. Choose a finish policy for the quieter set cards before counting the project as complete.
Use the tools before you choose a listing
Identify and compare: Card Finder helps you look for exact cards and available observations. Check the date and source market before treating a reference as a UK transaction price.
Review a graded card: PSA Lookup is a useful next step when checking a PSA-labelled listing. Match the label, certificate and card photographs; a certificate number by itself does not establish the condition or authenticity of the item offered.
Consider grading carefully: Read our UK grading costs and turnaround guide before submitting a card. Check the current service terms, include postage and selling costs, and allow for uncertain grades. A raw-to-PSA-10 price difference is not expected profit.
Explore the set: Browse chase cards when you want context for other cards in an expansion. If you are comparing sealed products as well, use the Booster Box Tracker and ETB Tracker. A set reference is not the price of this single card. For a sealed purchase you already track, use the ROI Calculator to compare its recorded performance with your purchase cost; it is a sealed-product tool, not a card-grading forecast.
Keep track: Where a card is covered, open its detail page to use the available collection or watchlist controls. See price-alert options for supported products; coverage, account requirements and plan limits apply. An article link does not mean every card here has an alert.
How to compare eBay listings
Start with the exact name, set, number and English language shown above. Our links use the card name, set and collector number, with English selected through eBay’s language filter. Promotional cards use their specific promo number rather than a long set label. Search results can still include the wrong printing, bundles or altered cards. They are starting points, not a seller recommendation or an authentication service.
For vintage cards, compare the edition stamp and any relevant printing differences. For all cards, ask for clear front, back, corner and surface photographs. A scan of the ideal card does not establish the condition of the copy for sale. Holo, reverse-holo, stamped and non-holo variants may share a number.
Compare the total delivered cost, including postage and any import charges. Raw and graded copies belong in separate comparisons, as do different grading companies and grades. Asking prices are not completed-sale evidence. Read the seller’s description, feedback and return terms before committing.
Questions about collecting Dragonite cards
Which Dragonite card should I buy first?
Choose one artwork you would enjoy owning, then set a delivered-cost limit. The first-ranked card is an editorial display pick, not a requirement or a promise that it is affordable. A simpler set card can make a better first purchase if you prefer its artwork or condition.
Are these the most expensive Dragonite cards?
No. The order reflects this guide’s collecting criteria. It does not use a live price table, auction record, print-run estimate or measured popularity score. A card outside this list can be a better fit for your theme.
Should I buy a single card or open packs?
A correctly identified single lets you choose the specific card and condition offered. Opening packs has an uncertain outcome and does not guarantee any card on this list. Compare the experience you want with the money you are prepared to spend.
Do the eBay links show the exact card?
They search for the card name, set and number, with English selected through eBay’s language filter, but eBay can return imperfect matches. Verify the listing photographs, language, finish and condition yourself. We do not claim current stock, a particular seller or a fixed price.
Sources and artwork
Card names, set identities, numbers and reference artwork were checked against the Pokémon TCG data catalogue, an independent community-maintained dataset. Images are served from copies checked against TCGdex’s English card catalogue or Pokémon’s official card artwork. You can also consult the official Pokémon card database and its search guide. Older releases and variants may need separate references. Card artwork is © Pokémon / Nintendo / Creatures / GAME FREAK; displayed to identify and discuss the cards, without implying endorsement. Rankings and collecting commentary are TCGInvest editorial choices.
